- American Medical Association, International Medical Graduates Section. While the AMA site as a whole is rich in educational information, this section represents the particular interests of physicians who graduated from schools outside the United States. Their Web site provides details and advice regarding the certification process, immigration, applying for a residency, position vacancies, and state licensure requirements for international medical graduates.

American Osteopathic Association. Information on education and licensure as well as listings for accredited programs in osteopathic medicine.

American Podiatric Medical Association. Information on the career, education, professionally accredited programs.

American Society of Human Genetics. Includes a directory of graduate and postgraduate programs related to human genetics.

Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Provides a list of all accredited U.S. medical schools awarding the M.D. degree.

Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). To be eligible to enter U.S. graduate residency programs, all physicians who have obtained their medical training outside the United States must be certified by this organization. Such physicians must also apply through ECFMG to take the USMLE qualifying/licensure examinations.

FRIEDA On-Line. Another essential AMA site, FRIEDA On-Line provides a searchable database of all the over 8,200 medical residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, allowing ready comparison of program size, salaries, and other criteria. Data on specific medical specialties is also provided, including the percentage of international medical graduates in particular specialty areas.
